Hawk's Prey

Our Hawk’s Prey Cabernet is a blockbuster. On a hot July day, the Itkin family was helping plant the vineyard when they noticed hawks circling them overhead. One family member asked what the birds were preying on, and a vineyard worker joked that as hot as it had been that week, it could very well be them. The birds were circling the vineyard all week and the name "Hawk's Prey" was born.

Planted on ancient volcanic soils, and sitting at roughly 1,100 ft above sea level, the vineyard is planted to a single clone, the Jenkins Clone. The Jenkins Clone traces its heritage back to the legendary vineyards of Chateau Lafite in Bordeaux. Ever since its first vintage, our Hawk’s Prey Vineyard has produced incredible Cabernets that are a true testament to the perfect union of site, clone, and winemaking skill.
